International Women’s Day collaboration with Global Women #PressforProgress

International Women’s Day (IWD) has been occurring since the early 1900’s and continues to grow from strength to strength. It is a collective day of global celebration for the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and a call to action for gender parity.

This IWD, SUPERdiverse WOMEN and Global Women, two leading membership organisations for women leaders in NZ, collaborated to an evening of talks with five exceptional and inspirational women, going with this year’s theme of #PressForProgress. The evening was opened by Mai Chen, Chair, SUPERdiverse WOMEN who shared her views on the current state of women’s freedom in NZ and closed by Miranda Burdon, CEO of Global Women who brought out the key insights from the speakers speeches.

The speakers for the evening were – SDW Established member, Cathy Parker, Publisher, Adrenalin Publishing and SDW Young member, Shahbeba Ali, Customer Experience Manager, Launchspace, journalist, Paula Penfold, film personality, Jennifer Ward-Leyland and Jodie King, Chief People Officer at Air New Zealand. The speakers covered themes that brought forth their personal experiences of triumph, discrimination, moments of victory as well as learnings from failure. They inspired the audience with their journeys of newsroom politics, behind the scenes drama, boardroom talks, loss of privilege and gain of support.
