Fleur Francois

Director, Measurement Standards Laboratory New Zealand

Fleur Francois has been Director of the Measurement Standards Laboratory (MSL) of New Zealand since May 2016. MSL is New Zealand’s national metrology institute responsible for maintaining the measurement system that underpins regulatory compliance and international trade.

After completing her PhD in Biochemistry, she worked on drug development for HIV and type 1 diabetes at Mt Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. She has worked in the public sector for over 15 years in a range of policy and operational leadership roles, including the Environmental Risk Management Authority, Ministry for the Environment, Ministry of Health, and Callaghan Innovation. Her policy work has spanned regulation of genetically modified organisms, marine environmental management, establishing the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), childhood obesity, developing New Zealand’s first social impact bond, and science and innovation.
