Mawera Karetai

Mawera Karetai (Kāi Tahu, Kāti Mamoe me Waitaha ki te Waipounamu) is a director, educator and community champion. Mawera, originally from Dunedin and now Whakatāne-based is married to Dave and is mum to David, Beau, Alexi and Jack.

A student for most of her adult life, Mawera has a Grad. Dip. Business (Dispute Resolution), a B. Applied Management (Strategic Management), and a Master of Professional Practice (Environmental Management). Mawera is in the process of enrolling in a PhD programme, researching the experience of international students in the New Zealand tertiary environment.

After many years of active engagement in the business community, Mawera is a director of AIMS Limited, has a ministerial appointment to the Conservation Board, to the Benefit Review Panel and lectures in business strategy and leadership. Of all her roles, it is the teaching she enjoys most. As well as teaching business, Mawera is an advocate for poison-free pest management, teaches classes on harvesting and preparing wild food and is co-editing a new book on Māori business.
