Pele Walker

Pele was the Chief Mediator for the Human Rights Commission where she has worked since 2006. Before this she was Executive Director for LEADR NZ, the professional body for mediators. She has practised as a private mediator and in earlier years, held senior human resource positions in the health service and State sector.

Pele served seven years on the Creative NZ Arts Board, chaired its Pacific Arts Committee and was the inaugural chair of the Pacific Women’s Economic Development Advisory Committee. She is currently a lay member of the Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal. Pele has held several board directorships, was a member of NACEW (National Advisory Council on the Employment of Women)and is a former President of the Wellington Central branch of PACIFICA Inc, a national organisation for Pacific women
